A discussion table is the format most training rooms actually run on. A round table scatters a room into circles that half-face away from the front; a discussion table keeps a small group looking at each other and at whoever is facilitating, which is the shape workshops, breakout syndicates and panel sessions are built around. Push two or three together end to end and you get a longer surface for a registration desk or a top table, without changing the furniture family halfway through the room.

Common bookings are seminars, conferences, medical and professional forums, and the syndicate breakout rooms that run alongside a main hall. Outside the hall the same tables do quieter work: a lounge corner, an outdoor reception, anywhere guests sit down for a few minutes rather than mingle standing up.

Sizing a room around them

How many people sit at one table depends on the table size and the chairs paired with it, so tell us the group size and room shape rather than guessing at a layout yourself. A syndicate breakout of four to six usually gets one discussion table per group with folding or banquet chairs around it. A briefing or exam hall usually wants rows of individual desks facing one direction instead, a different booking built around folding and student chairs rather than discussion tables. Tell us which of the two you are running so the crew brings the right shape.

Storage, surface and finish

Training rooms rarely have anywhere to leave furniture standing between sessions. If your venue needs the tables folded down and put away at the end of each day rather than left up overnight, say so when you book, and we will send stock built for that.

Surface finish is the other decision. A bare table top reads as an internal meeting; a cloth top with skirting reads as a conference or a product briefing. The cloth and skirting come from the same run used on our banquet tables, so the colour list is identical: white, cream and gold through to maroon, royal blue and dark green. Skirting closes off the front of the table so cabling and spare handouts stay out of view.

Chairs, stages and what usually books alongside

Banquet chairs are what we recommend most, since they read better in photos once cloth and skirting are on the table. Plastic chairs are the practical call for a full-day exam hall where budget matters more, and Tiffany chairs step it up for a launch or gala dinner alongside the sessions. For a panel table, an arm chair (see chair rental) reads more senior, and a coffee table and sofa set at the side gives speakers somewhere to sit before they go on. Podiums and carpeted stages usually travel with the same booking.
